BEER SWAP 2021-22

After last year's beer swap cured the original COVID variant, we are back on for in-person swapping for the 2021-22 season.  Here are the details:

DATE:  January 9, 2022 at 1:00 pm during the Eagles game against the Dallas Football Team.

LOCATION:  Colin and Rachael’s House (Horsham, PA) - address will be sent in the text message exchange

RULES:  This year, the theme is THE MUG SWAP!  Here are the requirements:

1)  You must bring one case of beer to be exchanged.  You can bring any type of beer (bottles or cans) you want - no restrictions;

2)  You must bring a beer mug (new, not used!) that will also be exchanged – (BE WILLING TO PART WAYS WITH THE MUG);

3)  Now the fun part -> the mug must be related to the beer you bring.  You will be judged about how creatively the beer relates to the mug.  Some examples:

Example #1:  You bring a beer from Ballast Point Brewery and a mug with the Ballast Point logo on it.  C'mon man - this ain't that creative.  You will score low on creativity and should be ashamed.  Seek counseling.

Example #2:  You bring a beer from Anchor Brewing Company in San Francisco and bring a mug with an Alcatraz logo on it.  Okay I see what you did there.- trying to tie the beer and mug together by the City.  Not bad, but creativity is entirely subjective and no telling what this crowd would do with it.

Example #3:   You bring one of the Ales of the Revolution from Yards, and you bring a pewter beer mug. You better be prepared to justify this nonsense.  You will have to explain that pewter mugs were commonly used in Colonial times and that our forefathers likely consumed many an ale from pewter mugs as they were planning to revolt against England.  This seems creative to me, but someone else might think this is B.S. Good luck!

4)  Scoring:  The score will be based on 65% Taste and 35% mug/creativity;

5)  At the end of the swap, mugs will be exchanges as follows:  The Winner goes first and selects the mug of their choice.  Second place goes next- and do on - until the Ultimate Loser gets the last, scrap mug left over;

6)  Don't forget -> the Ultimate Loser hosts this next year!

One Reminder- Please text me before you buy the beer.  WE HATE DUPLICATES and you will be dinged for it!! (DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS MIDNIGHT – 1/8/2022)

I will continue to circulate an updated list of beer called in, so we are all on the same page

AFTER FURTHER REVIEW

Given the closeness of the scoring this year, which had the 3 best American Oktoberfest beers separated by less than one point, we did an automatic recount.  Lo and behold, we found an error in the scoring on one beer.  Sure enough, it changes the overall result.

Winner of the match and NEW, BEER SWAP CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, is:

LEINENKUGEL OKTOBERFEST!

Congratulations to our first time champion John Hoog!

Oh, and after further review, Jason's beer is still the Worst.  Swap in Horsham 2012!

ILLEGAL (BEER) SUBSTITUTION

The Rules Committee has met in advance of this weekend's Big Event.  We have decided on the following two-tiered penalty system for any participants who bring a beer which does not fit in the category:

1) For close misses, the person bringing the beer will be penalized one point in the taste category from each person voting for that person's beer.  For example, a person who brings an Oktoberfest from outside the United States will lose one point from every voter in the taste category.

2) For bad misses, the person bringing the beer will be penalized two points in the taste category from each voter and will be given all zeros in the cap category.  For example, a pumpkin beer, or an IPA would be considered a bad miss.

The penalty will not be considered in determining the "Ultimate Loser."

For a refresher on the rules and scoring, see last year's post on that topic.

A TRADITION LIKE NO OTHER

The crowds of people are anxiously waiting outside the gathering place where the College of Beer Drinkers are voting to select the date for Beer Swap 2011. The final ballots have been burned and white smoke is pluming through the hallowed chimney.

HABEMUS DATUM EL SWAPO!

(We have a date for the Swap).

At 3:42 p.m. this afternoon, the two time reigning champion emailed the following message:

"A tradition like no other 'The Beer Swap'... i vote giants game."

And with that, a majority of the members have voted to sustain the grand tradition of the Beer Swap. This year the Beer Swap will take place on November 20, 2011 during Sunday Night Football.

BEER SWAP LOCKOUT?

WELCOME BACK, NFL!

The return of the NFL Season, brings with it some Beer Swap controversy. The Philadelphia Eagles will play the New York (whatever you do, do not punt to DeSean Jackson) Giants in the New (but still smelly) Meadowlands on November 20, 2011 at 8:20 p.m. As is tradition from the time of the Swap Founding Fathers, the Beer Swap shall "thus teketh place on the date and time aforesaid."

However, there are voices of dissent.

Unnamed sources have advised me that some of unwashed Swap masses believe that the Event is better placed after Thanksgiving and closer to Christmas. Still others complain that the imbibing is better placed in an afternoon game.

I for one believe in tradition and am prepared to lock out any who disagree. (Don't be fooled, although the "bevridges" (sic) will be consumed at my parent's house, I still have a key and will literally lock you out.)

In the interest of negotiation (ala President Barry O and the debt cieling), I am willing to offer a compromise and allow you to have the chance to vote and agree with me.

Your choices are:

1) November 20, 2011 at 8:20 p.m. (Eagles @ Giants); or

2) December 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. (Eagles @ Dolphins).

Voting will remain open until midnight on Friday, August 5, 2011. Please email me with your vote.
